Where it stands
VoiceMerge for iPhone is in TestFlight; App Store review is the next step. This page will carry the App Store link when it's approved. If you'd like to try it now, write to [email protected].
The VoiceMerge keyboard
A full QWERTY keyboard with a Dictate button on top. It types like any keyboard: letters, numbers and symbols, shift and caps lock, auto-capitalization, double-space for a period, a delete key that repeats when held, and a return key that takes the field's label ("send", "go"). Number fields open on the number pad.
Keyboard extensions can't use the microphone, so Dictate opens VoiceMerge to listen. Speak, stop, switch back, and the keyboard inserts the text where you were typing.
Dictate, from anywhere
- Open the app and tap the mic, or start from the Action Button, a Shortcut, or Siri ("Start dictation in VoiceMerge").
- Speech-to-text uses Apple's on-device recognizer by default. Parakeet and Whisper are there if you prefer them.
- The clean text is copied to the clipboard, ready to paste, or inserted through the keyboard.
Everything else the Mac does
- Edit: copy some text, say how to change it, paste the result.
- Distill: talk through an idea and review a brief.
- Tasks: say what needs doing; review; send to Reminders, Obsidian, Microsoft To Do, ClickUp or Notion.
- Meetings: record the room and get a note with speakers told apart and a summary. Recording continues with the screen locked. On iPhone this is microphone only; capturing the other side of a call is a Mac feature.
- The same personal dictionary and task list as the Mac app.
Where the words go
Audio stays on the phone. For cleanup, pick one of three paths in Settings → Intelligence: On device (Apple Intelligence where the phone supports it, free), Your own keys (Anthropic, OpenAI or Groq, stored in the Keychain), or VoiceMerge credits (Claude through our service, pay as you go). Or turn cleanup off and keep the raw words. Details in the privacy policy.
Credits and your account
An account is only needed for credits. Sign in with Apple, buy a pack through the App Store ($4.99, $9.99 or $19.99), and the balance shows in Settings → Account & credits with a ledger of every request. Delete the account from the same screen; it removes the account and the ledger. See pricing.
Requirements
- iPhone or iPad with iOS 18 or later.
- On-device cleanup needs a device that supports Apple Intelligence. On other devices, use your own key or credits, or keep the raw transcript.
